A free tool for comparing neighbourhoods across England & Wales.
AreaScout scores every Lower Super Output Area (LSOA) in England and Wales — around 36,000 neighbourhoods — across 21 factors covering safety, property costs, connectivity, climate, and demographics.
Each factor is derived from an authoritative open-data source (government, OS, Ofcom, Met Office) and normalised to a 0–100 percentile scale so factors with different units can be combined fairly. The composite score is a weighted average of the factors you enable.
You can adjust weights, enable or disable individual factors, and view scores at both district (LAD) and neighbourhood (LSOA) level. Scores within a district are ranked relative to their district peers, so you can find the best streets within a target area.
Full source details, scoring logic, and data vintages for every factor are on the Data Sources page.
All raw data is used under open licences (OGL v3, OS OpenData, Ofcom Open Data Licence). Derived scores are not endorsed by the original data providers.
AreaScout does not collect any personal data. There is no account system, no login, and no user-submitted information.
We use Vercel Analytics for anonymous, aggregate page-view statistics. No cookies are set and no cross-site tracking occurs. Vercel's privacy policy applies to that data.
The site is hosted on Vercel (frontend) and Fly.io (API). Standard access logs (IP address, request path, timestamp) may be retained by these providers in accordance with their own privacy policies.
